EasySections
These are blocks of Perspex, a material hard enough to hold the sample but soft enough to cut and polish easily. They have three moulded wells. Two are for resin and paint samples, each allowing for a different method of cutting and polishing and for a different final size of sample cube. The well used will depend on the focussing space of the microscope which the conservator intends to use and on the cutting and polishing equipment available.

The third well accommodates a reference for the sample which can also be embedded. Because of the small size of the wells a sample is ready to polish in 12-18 hours with very little resin required.

EasySections measure 30mm x 11mm x 5mm.

Embedding resin and catalyst
Acrylic resin with a methyl methacylate base. The resin has the same optical properties as the block. It avoids problems associated with other resins normally used for embedding paint samples: the resin has a shelf life of more than one year if stored in the dark below 20°C (68°F); bubbles quickly rise to the surface, and it can be mixed in small quantities.
